Clearwater Creek Ranch and RV Resort on The Frio

This park is tucked away in the bends of the Frio River. This weekend getaway was a last-minute trip when some good friends of our invited us down. Without thinking twice, we packed up and headed south. Because I had work and the kiddos had school, Shaune went ahead of us and got everything set up before we got there (including the King Onepro DirectTV!).

Spot 10

Because Clearwater Ranch and RV Resort is tucked away in the bottom of the Texas hills, Verizon has no service within 20 miles of Leakey, Texas so this was an off-grid trip for me! The campground had a lot of empty sites, but our friends tell us that it was just a slow weekend. They have a playground in the middle which I loved, and the kids enjoyed tremendously.

We were in spot 10. Both spots 10 and 9 make for and easy back in and are deep enough for a 40 foot plus rig. Everything is within walking distance, or the roads are big enough for a vehicle. The proximity to the Frio and the multiple entrance spots makes this a true hidden gem of west-central Texas.

Pros:

  • Quiet
  • Family owned
  • Private River Access
  • Level sites for being gravel
  • Full Hook-ups
  • Off main highways

Cons:

  • Shade trees are not fully grown yet
  • Pad sites could benefit from being about 2 feet wider
  • Office Staff cannot always be reached
  • Not big family friendly. They charge $55 per night for a couple then $10 per every person after that. Meaning for our family of six this RV park would cost $95 per night!

Because this was a last-minute trip, I didn’t do an in-depth meal plan.

Saturday Breakfast:

We went to breakfast in town at Mill Creek Café. I am the worst at remembering to take pictures of my food. Especially before I have had my coffee! This cute local restaurant provided huge portions of food for extremely reasonable prices. The staff was super friendly and the locals were welcoming! If you are ever in the area, I definitely recommend you stop in!

Saturday Lunch:

We made Chicken strip wraps! This is a simple and quick lunch if you are tired of sandwiches. Just bake or microwave premade chicken strips then once they are ready wrap them in a tortilla with lettuce, shredded cheese, tomato, and ranch. Then viola! Quick, easy, and delicious Chicken Strip Wraps.

Saturday Dinner:

After a fun filled day swimming around in the Frio. We came back to the RV for good old-fashioned cheeseburgers, coleslaw, and potato salad.

Lessons learned on this trip:

  • Always have a different cell phone provider than your spouse (he had full service and I had nothing!)
  • Leave the spare key to your car in the RV. Our baby wanderer put her precious and beloved baby Ariel doll in the car. Out of fear that she would be taken she locked my car not knowing that the keys were inside. This unfortunately put us 2.5 hours late leaving the park! Thank goodness good police officers still exist!

Must pack for this park:

  • Citronella candles, citronella candles, and more citronella candles.
  • Bug Spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Canopy- There is no shade at the sites.

We hope to be back if not this summer, next summer. It was an easy drive, relaxing day, and an easy park to maneuver with a big rig. Where will we wander to next?
